Cosmetology Course Outline Description: The primary purpose of this cosmetology course is to train the student in the basic manipulative skills, safety judgments, proper work habits, and desirable attitudes necessary to obtain licensure and for competency in entry –level positions in cosmetology or a related career field. Up to 50% of these hours may be offered in Distance Education. Only Theory may be offered in Distance Education.
Objectives: Upon Completion of the course requirements, the determined graduate will be able to:

Practice effective communication skills, visual pose, and proper grooming

Apply learned theory, technical information, and related matter to ensure sound judgments, decisions and procedures to ensure continued career success, the graduate will continue to learn new and current information related to skills, trends, and methods for career development in cosmetology and related fields.
Format: The Clock Hour education is provided through sequential learning steps that address specific task necessary for state board preparation, graduation and entry-level job skills. Clinic equipment, implements, and products are comparable to those used in the industry. Each student will receive instruction that relates to the performance of useful, creative, and productive career-oriented activities. The course is presented through comprehensive lesson plans that reflect effective educational methods. Subjects are presented by means of lecture, demonstration, and student participation. Audiovisual aids, guest speakers, field trips, projects, activities, and other related learning methods are used in the course. Distance Education is used for 50% of these hours. During that time, Theory will be taught via Zoom and other online platforms using Milady’s Mindtap. Interaction with the Instructor is required to show participation during these Distance Ed Hours. The Student’s qualitative academic performance for each 10% of the Distance Education Modules component will actually be tested in person by a qualified instructor. ALL Transcripts & and or other documentation listing academic attainment received will identify the distance education component. Prior to enrollment students are provided with a disclaimer that academic achievement earned via distance education may or may not be accepted for reciprocity or eligible for licensure in other states. Students are required to attend no less than one day per week for practical exercise and testing requirements.

Milady Text, Mindtap online curriculum, Interactive lecture, demonstration, practical application, question and answer, projects, testing and evaluation, audiovisual aids, assignments, field trips, Zoom online classrooms, and guest speakers. Additional Classes held in school during enrollment that all students must participate in: Violence Against Women, Drug Awareness & Prevention and the Celebration of Constitution Week.
